Here it is folks, the edition you have all been waiting for, the scariest newsletter of them all, Chester’s Chatterbones – The Halloween Edition.  I'm sure you'll enjoy this issue every bit as much as the last one, maybe even a tad bit more…but not nearly as much as you will enjoy the next one…but that is yet to come.  So without further hesitation, let's boogie... (Hope this doesn’t scare you too bad, but it is
Halloween
you know.)

Chester’s Cooking Tips

Keeping in tradition with the Holiday spirit, this month I thought I’d show you how to make my favorite Ghoul-losh, in 4 easy steps…(caution…this recipe is not for the weak at heart, or stomach)

#1        Sear the flesh from a slaughtered bovine in a scorching skillet.

#2        Grasp a corpulent mature tomato and strangle the blood from it’s fleshy body into the blistering carnage.

#3        Mangle in severed elbows of seething pasta.

#4        Add green pepper, onion, salt & pepper to taste.  But, no!  No! NOT GARLIC!!

Tune in next month when we find out how to Stuff your Thanksgiving Turkey….in 4 easy steps.

A Halloween Poem

By Chester Chatsworth

It was a dark and spooky night
All the creeps were out of sight
I couldn’t see for lack of light
Then something gave me a fright!

I tried to see what it was
And felt a creeping in my paws
I was becoming a wreck
As the fur stood up on my neck.

 Although I couldn’t see anyone
I wasn’t having any fun
I was scared so I began to run
That’s when I tripped over somethun.

I picked myself off the ground
And began to turn around
When I heard a weird sound
I knew exactly what I had found.

They were wearing masks and sheets
Dressed up like spooks and creeps
Moving up and down in the streets
Collecting their tricks and treats.

It was just a group of kids that night
And that, I thought was dandy
Because if I played my cards right
They might share their Halloween candy

Your Name:

Howl-o-wean

Many of you may wonder where Halloween gets its name.  Many of you might not.  But for those of you who do, here’s a little known doggie fact about Halloween.  Halloween originally was established as a dog holiday.  Since many dogs are born in the late summer months (hence dog days of summer) by late October, it is common for mother dogs to wean their pups from them.  During the last days in October, mother dogs would separate their pups from them (as my mom did with me).  The puppies would be very unhappy and would begin to howl loudly in the light of the full moon.  After a few days, the pups would be weaned and on October 31st, a big party would be held where all the dogs and puppies would play games.  The original name for this celebration was called The Howling of the weaning dog’s celebration day. Later it was shortened to Howl-o-wean, and then humans (who can’t spell very well) adopted the concept and changed the spelling to Halloween.  And there you have it folks, a true tale of history.

Chester’s Flick Pick

Dog’s love family fun.  I should know because I am one…a dog that is, not a family.  Well, I guess I am part of a family.  Anyway, we also enjoy family entertainment.  One thing I really love is a good movie flick at the theater.  A hot buttery bowl of fresh popcorn and a box of rawhide chews are my favorite.  I definitely recommend that for this Halloween Holiday season you take a family outing to the movies.  The movie I recommended for all is Spooky House.  It stars Ben Kingsley (who played Gandhi) and is great for the kids of all ages and adults alike. Spooky House was the Grand Prize winner (‘best of fest’ and 1st prize, ‘children’s jury award’) at the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival.  It is due out around Halloween in the major cities around Texas.  You can find more information on this film at: www.spookyhousemovie.com
